Standing Up for Parents and Students in Georgia Schools

·Beth Camp

Education is the great equalizer. A quality education opens doors, builds futures, and gives every child — regardless of zip code or family income — a shot at the American dream. That is why I have made education one of my top priorities in the Georgia House.

But quality education starts with parental involvement. Parents are not obstacles to a good education — they are the most important partners in it. When parents are informed, engaged, and empowered, students thrive. When they are shut out, students suffer. I have fought hard this session to ensure Georgia parents have full transparency into what is being taught in their children's classrooms.

I also believe strongly in school choice. Every family in Georgia should have the freedom to choose the educational environment that is right for their child — whether that is a traditional public school, a charter school, a private school, or a home setting. No child should be trapped in a failing school simply because of where they live.

Our teachers deserve our respect and our support. The men and women who show up every day to educate the next generation of Georgians are doing some of the most important work in our state. I will always fight for competitive teacher pay and for removing the bureaucratic burdens that keep great teachers from doing what they do best.

Education policy is never simple, but the principle is: put students and families first. That will always be my north star in the Georgia House.
