Listening Tour: Voices from Lamar, Pike & Spalding

·Beth Camp

This past month I had the privilege of traveling every corner of House District 135 — from the farm roads of Lamar County to the main streets of Pike and the neighborhoods of Spalding. I held town halls, stopped in at local diners, visited farms, and sat down with small business owners. What I heard was both inspiring and sobering.

Our farmers are worried. Input costs are up, margins are thin, and they feel like Atlanta is not always listening. I heard that message loud and clear, and I am taking it back with me to the Gold Dome. Our agricultural community is not just an economic engine — it is the soul of this district, and it deserves a champion in the legislature.

Parents told me they want more say in their children's education. They want transparency, they want choices, and they want a school system that reflects the values of this community. I am committed to fighting for every one of those things.

Seniors expressed concern about rising costs and access to healthcare in rural areas. These are real challenges that require real solutions — not talking points. I am working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to address the gaps in rural healthcare access that too many of our neighbors face every day.

Small business owners asked for one thing above all else: get government out of the way. Lower taxes, fewer regulations, and a legislature that trusts them to make decisions for their own businesses. That is exactly the kind of government I believe in, and it is what I will keep fighting for.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share your thoughts with me. This district is my home, and your voices will always guide my work in Atlanta.
